Treasury Consultation: Proposed changes to ACNC Governance Standard 3

   February 2021   |  News   |  Alex Milner

Treasury is seeking submissions regarding a proposal to broaden ACNC Governance Standard 3.

The proposal will require that registered charities not engage in or promote conduct that may be dealt with as a summary offence relating to property or persons. The change appears aimed at discouraging charities from participating in or encouraging acts of civil disobedience (ie such as during public protests). Some parts of the sector have voiced concerns that the changes go too far or are unnecessary.

Submissions are due by 14 March 2021 (further details available here). If you need any assistance or would like to discuss further, please contact Alex Milner (Partner).
