Pastoral care services DGR category
March 2022 | News | Emma Kostas and William Messer
Commonwealth Treasury is seeking submissions regarding the establishment of a new deductible gift recipient (DGR) category for pastoral care and like wellbeing services for students in Australian primary and secondary schools.
The motivation behind establishing this new DGR category is to provide flexibility for individual Australian schools, parents and citizens associations, and other eligible entities to collect deductible donations to support the provision of pastoral care services in schools.
Treasury has identified three key criteria for the proposed pastoral care DGR category:
- A DGR category for funds operated by an ACNC registered charity or Australian government agency.
- The fund must be established and maintained solely to support the activity of delivering pastoral care services to Australian primary and secondary school students.
- The provision of pastoral care must be delivered by an appropriately qualified worker whose predominant purpose and function is to provide pastoral care to students in a school environment.
Treasury is seeking feedback from interested parties in order to inform their advice to Government on the design of the proposed legislative amendments.
Submissions are due by 29 April 2022 (further details available here). Please contact Jae Yang (Partner) or Emma Kostas if you have any queries or if you require assistance.
